Private yoga lessons with Sonali Sadequee are a delivery of Alignment-based Trauma Conscious yoga. Her teachings on alignment are inspired by master teacher, Aadil Palkhivala, the founder of College of Purna Yoga. She is also trained by David Emerson of the Trauma Center of Justice Resource Institute to bring her students a dynamic yoga journey that pays close attention to supporting her students to train and transform their nervous system with proper alignment, breath-work, and spirit-infused meditations. With many years experience supporting private clients, Sonali emphasizes safety, mindfulness, and kindness in her classes.
We live in world that can feel very overwhelming emotionally and psychologically. Therefore, this class is for those of us who are looking for better ways build inner capacity and respond better to the hardness of life and our increasingly agitated/irritated/shut-down/numb/overwhelmed/hurt nervous systems.
We will experiment with yoga in a way that is designed to support and help enhance our capacity to respond to the emotional stresses of life with a sense of empowerment, freedom, and dynamic self-awareness.
As overwhelmed/anxious people, we know how much (verbal/emotional/energetic/physical) pain we endure day to day, either directly or indirectly. Additionally, many of us live at the intersections of multiple identities that are attacked/oppressed as people of color/Muslims/LGBTQIA/etc.. Experiencing and witnessing such forms of violations accumulates in our nervous systems and has a way of overwhelming us and disrupting our ability to cope, respond, and function daily.
At a trauma conscious yoga space, you don’t have to worry about being judged or forced to do something or be something that is not aligned with dignity and justice. Join this class if you would like to begin your healing journey in a powerful and supportive way.
A “trauma conscious” yoga class is taught differently from the yoga class we are familiar with in general yoga classes. A typical yoga class may not be comfortable or relaxing to a trauma survivor and in fact may feel dangerous and scary. A trauma survivor can be an adult survivor of childhood abuse, a domestic violence survivor, a survivor of sexual assault, someone who was in a horrible accident, or war veteran dealing with PTSD.

Transitions seamlessly from one to the next postures while learning about each chakra's individual qualities. Students are introduced to the higher 8th, 9th, and 10th chakras that reside above the physical body after they have completed their first 12 classes. The work in these higher chakras involve a deeper practice of breath-awareness, self-awareness, and meditation. This class is for all levels.
