Queer/Trans Yoga for Transforming Trauma

  • Phillip Rush Center Annex 1530 DeKalb Avenue Northeast Atlanta, GA, 30307 United States (map)

This donation-based trauma-informed yoga class is for queer/trans people seeking better ways respond to the hardness of life and our increasingly agitated/irritated/shut-down/numb/overwhelmed/hurt nervous systems.
We will experiment with yoga in a way that is designed to support and help us enhance our capacity to respond to the hardness of life with a sense of empowerment, freedom, and dynamic self-awareness.
As Queer/trans people , we know how much pain/discrimination/attacks (verbal/energetic/physical) we endure day to day, either directly or indirectly. Many of us also live at the intersections of multiple other identities that are also attacked or oppressed. Experiencing and witnessing such forms of oppression accumulates in our nervous systems and has a way of overwhelming us and disrupting our ability to cope, respond, and function.
Which is why we know we need a healing space where we don’t have to worry about being “othered" or judged or forced to do something or be something that is not aligned with dignity and justice.
The intersections of oppression and works for collective liberation guide and inform this yoga class here at the Philip Rush Center. Because LGBTQIA people are hugely underrepresented and under-served in mainstream yoga studios, we have created this space here to support our Atlanta queer/trans family.
In light of everything painful and numbing happening in our lives and in the world, let us come together to rebuild the capacity of our nervous systems.
